Dangerous Cap and Trade

At a time when taxpayers are fed up with lawmakers abusing their money – Congress is at it again! The Waxman – Markey, American Energy and Security Act will create a huge bureaucratic pork barrel project for elected officials to pick and choose who benefits – all in the name of climate change.

Carbon cap and trade will be a complicated Wall Street style system that benefits some favored industries while punishing others.

Congress will decide which of their “friends” will receive the free emissions credits and who will be punished. In the end, all energy consumers will pay. Long term, a complex trading system is ripe for manipulation, corruption and failure. In the short term, it means higher energy costs for everyone.

We’ve all heard the recent debate about a proposed new nuclear power plant in Callaway county Missouri. At the center of the debate was the big question – who will pay to build it? The backlash from consumers who feared it would be them was loud and clear. The debate was simple to understand because it meant an easy to read rate increase on your monthly bill. Unlike the nuclear power plant debate, the proposed federal cap and trade system is designed to be complex but the result would be the same: higher energy bills.

If consumers are worried about higher energy bills then they should stop this dangerous carbon cap and trade scheme that Congress is cooking up.
